BARMM bags 18 medals in Palarong Pambansa 2024

CEBU CITY — The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) bagged a total of 18 medals — six (6) gold, five (5) silver, and seven (7) bronze — in the recently-conluded Palarong Pambansa 2024.

Gold medals were awarded to Joeharry O. Bones of Cotabato City in Taekwondo Kyurogi and Jamal Rahmat D. Pandi of Lanao del Sur I in Badminton Singles Secondary Boys. Their coaches are Fatima A. Abdulwahab and Maylin Canillo, respectively.

Silver medal was awarded to Muhammad Keyan A. Sarip of Marawi City in Tennis Singles Elementary Boys. His coach is Eliazaro B. Tan.

The duo Albretch O. Job and Rushdie N. Marcaban of Cotabato City, coached by Roberto M. Espina, won the bronze medal in the Tennis Doubles Secondary Boys.

Bronze medals were also awarded to Princess Malaya L. Morante (Full Contact Bantam Weight over 40 kgs up to 44 kgs), Shiamira T. Sabirin (Full Contact Feather Weight over 44 kgs up to 48 kgs), and Abbigail H. Torres (Full Contact Extra Light Weight over 48 kgs up to 52 kg) of Lamitan City in Arnis Secondary Girls. Their coach is Edgardo B. Delica.

BARMM also secured four (4) gold, four (4) silver, and three (3) bronze medals in Paragames where BARMM athletes who are Orthopedically Handicapped (OH), have Intellectual Disability (ID), and are Visually Impaired (VI) compete against other regions.

Maguindanao del Sur’s para athletes Hamen T. Abpa (ID), Al-Fhar T. Adtig (ID), Ruto G. Lawan (ID), and Abu Huda D. Sampong (ID) secured a bronze medal in the 4×100-meter Relay Youth category. Their coach is Krisna P. Alannaki.

Adtig also won a gold medal in Boys Long Jump, a bronze medal in Boys 200-meter Dash, and another bronze medal in 100-meter dash, all under youth category.

John Rey M. Bonoan (OH) of Lamitan City won a gold medal in the 50-meter Butterfly Swimming, silver medal for 50-meter Backstroke, and also a silver medal for 50-meter Breaststroke. His coach is Larry Paderanga.

Reyniek A. Mobadon (OH) of Maguindanao del Sur also won two (2) gold medals in the Boys Long Jump and Boys High Jump, a silver medal in Boys Shot Put. His coach is April Babes P. Paches.

Judy Love A. Marcos (VI) of Maguindanao del Norte won her silver medal in Running Long Jump Girls. Her coach is Julie Ann R. Santos.

This national multi-sport competition were participated by the 17 regional athletic associations under the Department of Education (DepEd), the Philippine Schools Overseas, and the National Academy of Sports.

Next year’s Palaro is to be held in Ilocos Norte.
