Education Ministry ensures IP Implementation in Tawi-Tawi schools

The Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education through its Bureau of Indigenous Peoples Education (BIPED) carried out a monitoring mission in Tawi-Tawi’s schools from January 22 to 25, 2024, aimed at addressing educational disparities and promoting inclusivity.

During the mission, the team visited Luuk Banca Elementary School, Sama Kasulutan Elementary School, Lamion Annex Primary School in Bongao, and Laud Elementary School in Simunul Island. Laud Elementary School, in particular, was noted for its exclusive focus on serving 100% Badjao learners, highlighting the necessity of tailored approaches for Indigenous Peoples (IP) learners.

The primary objective of this monitoring initiative is to develop comprehensive guidelines for schools implementing Indigenous Peoples Education (IPED) and those with IP learners. The MBHTE expresses gratitude to the Schools Division of Tawi-Tawi for their support during the monitoring conducted by the BIPED.

The BIPED Team, led by Imelda S. Sombrito, Regional IPED Focal, along with Petronilo Cristobal Jr. from the Office of Director General for Basic Education and Shaira Abedin, conducted the on-site evaluations.
