COTABATO CITY, April 3, 2023 — The Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) conducted here today the ceremonial awarding of one-time scholarship to Standard Madrasah Curriculum (SMC) learners and the distribution of cash aid to performing schools and Severe Tropical Storm (STS) Paeng-affected schools.
The scholarship, which is in cash form, is given to learners-in-crisis in any grade level and currently enrolled in accredited madrasah as identified by the school heads based on the selection criteria as provided in the ranking system provided by the MBHTE as per issued Regional Memorandum (RM) No. 896-B, series of 2022.
A total of 8,318 SMC learners in the whole region will be given Php 3,000.00.
Meanwhile, the MBHTE also provided cash aid to 468 identified performing schools.
Out of the number, 178 schools received Php 50,000.00, 106 received Php 25,000.00, and Php 20,000.00 was given to 184 schools.
This assistance shall cover costs for repairs and maintenance of public school facilities under the Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) Allotment Class with unit prices below Php 50,000.00 in accordance with COA Circular 004-2022 dated May 31, 2022.
On the other hand, 210 schools affected by the STS Paeng were also granted financial assistance worth Php 50,000.00 and 30,000.00 classified as severely and moderately affected, respectively.
Minister Mohagher Iqbal emphasized that the Ministry exerts rigorous efforts to provide quality services and programs among all recognized Madrasah, both for its teachers and learners.
It can be recalled that last October 29, 2022, STS Paeng hit the country and destroyed some schools in BARMM.
